I provide both brief and long-term therapy for individual adults and adolescents, couples and families. I’d like to give you a sense of how I tend to work with each.
- For Individuals – I help individual adults and teenagers to feel less alone and more empowered to live the life they want by providing consistent, compassionate support and guidance. Meeting with me at least once a week provides a good foundation for exploring your concerns and hopes and for initiating steps towards your goals. I work closely with you to understand what feels safe and supportive as well as what can feel more challenging. Together, we can draw upon your natural strengths and resources to help bring about the changes you seek.
- For Couples – I support couples in their desire to improve communication skills, resolve conflicts, address differences and feel greater empathy and connection with each other. I listen carefully to each person’s experience while keeping in mind the shared goals and hopes of the couple. I also compassionately attend to how each person’s experiences in his or her own family of origin may unconsciously play out within the relationship and can help couples to find healthier ways of relating.
- For Families – I specialize in helping families gain a better understanding of what’s going on with their teenager and to feel more connected to him or her. I also specialize in helping gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex families to feel greater support and validation for their choices. I work with both small and large families whose members can include children, adolescents, extended family members and non-biological family members. My work with families focuses on issues of communication, crises, loss, transitions and parenting. In meetings, I listen to each person’s perspective as it relates to the broader context of a family’s history and dynamics.
